Assisted learning Class

Need

Many members in the community could not afford smartphones for online classes and required tuition classes in the neighbourhood. To respond to this need, Saath and UNICEF started the assisted learning class for the children from underserved communities in the five areas of Ahmedabad, namely Vasna, Vatva, Behrampura, Juhapura, and Old City. This program aims to strengthen online learning and ensure that education remains a continuous process during this pandemic.

Our Intervention

The classes provide primary education, including alphabets & numbers, Tables, language, and General Knowledge. In addition to this, one of the essential objectives is to keep children engaged and ensure that the gap in schooling does not lead to children or parents not wanting to continue their education. The classes are promoting creative ways of learning along with games, drawings, and other activities. To ensure that the learning provided in the course is not taken lightly and the children and parents pay attention a token amount worth rupees 50 is taken from them. The money collected is directed to the teachers, whom Saath also supports with an honorarium. This practice has ensured that children, parents, and the teacher are accountable for attending the classes.

Impact

Implementation of 60 educational classes in 50 settlements with a total of 1200 students of the age group of 10- 14 years in the five areas.

6 Training of the Teachers held wherein 60 teachers of the 60 educational classes receive training on curriculum development, child psychology, planning the extracurricular activities, tracking every child’s progress.

More than 100 sessions on Career Counseling and gender sensitivity to young boys and girls, awareness on menstrual hygiene amongst adolescent girls, nutrition support to undernourished children, pregnant and lactating mothers are some of the other important components in it.
